Honoring Julie Christie’s Advocacy for Breast Implant Awareness Day

February 13 is a significant day for women affected by Breast Implant Illness (BII), as activists push to have it officially recognized as Breast Implant Awareness Day. Julie Christie, a dedicated advocate and member of RQASF, has been at the forefront of this movement, sharing her personal journey and extensive research to raise awareness about the risks associated with breast implants.

After suffering debilitating health issues for years, Julie found relief only after explanting in 2019, recovering from more than 60 symptoms. Her experience underscores the urgent need for informed consent in breast surgeries, ensuring that women fully understand the physical, emotional, and financial implications of implants. Through public conferences, workshops, and an upcoming photo exhibition, “My Body, My Story”, Julie aims to amplify the voices of women impacted by these procedures, challenge societal beauty standards, and promote body acceptance.

Julie’s work, in collaboration with the Global Patient Advocacy Coalition (GPAC) and other organizations, is instrumental in fostering change. By standing together, we can break the silence and empower women with knowledge, support, and advocacy.
